Osama Bin Laden

After watching the news segment, please answer as many of the following questions as you can (the more the better :)):

What did you learn about Osama Bin Laden? Why was he such a hunted person? What did you learn about his capture and death? What did you find most interesting about this news?

Everyone should answer these questions:

What do you think about Bin Laden's death? How do YOU as an American citizen feel about it? Was it justified? Should it be celebrated? Should it have been done? What do you think will come next? Since President Obama authorized the successful mission, how do you think it will affect his 2012 presidential campaign?

Be sure to include reasons for your answers!

Luther

Please respond thoughtfully and be as original as possible. It is ok to borrow ideas from your classmates, but you must demonstrate some of your own thinking in your post.

List THREE new things you learned after watching the movie.

List THREE things that the movie helped you to understand better.

List THREE things you are still confused about OR THREE questions you still have about Luther and the Protestant Reformation.

What do you think the Catholic Church will do in response to the Reformation?

Emmanual Jal!

I'm so sad that I had to miss the Emmanual Jal presentation and concert! For this blog post, I'd like you to share your thoughts and impressions of Mr. Jal, his story, and his music. Since I wasn't there, you'll have to be descriptive and specific so I can get a flavor for what the experience was like!

Note Taking Skills

I'd like you to reflect on the note taking homework assignment and quiz from Friday. Use the following questions as a guide and answer the ones that apply:

Did taking notes help you to recall information on the quiz when you weren't allowed to use your notes? Why or why not?

Did your notes help you to answer the questions on the quiz? If not, why not? Were your notes too brief? Or did you miss the main ideas?

Did your notes include too many unimportant details?

When you shared your notes for round three, what did you notice about your group members' notes? Were they more or less thorough than yours? Did they use particular organizational tactics that were similar or different from yours? What did you learn about your OWN note taking skills (strengths and/or weaknesses) from looking at what your classmates recorded?

EVERYONE MUST ANSWER THIS ONE!
Why do you think teachers ask you to take notes on what you read?

Socratic Seminar

Please answer all of the following questions in a few thoughtful paragraphs. Weave your answers together in a coherent and logical manner.

What did you think of today's seminar? Did you like your role? Could you have participated more? What suggestions do you have for the next seminar? What was your favorite topic covered during the discussion? What other questions do you have about the reading? Did the seminar help you to better understand the comparison between Rome and America...why or why not?

Will America Fall?

Please respond to the following questions in AT LEAST one thoughtful paragraph (remember to use proper spelling and grammar!). If you have more to say, please share.

Make sure you "Comment" on this post instead of creating a new post.

Which argument in the article about the comparisons between ancient Rome and contemporary America did you find most compelling or convincing? WHY?
Do you think the comparison between the two "empires" is valid? Why or why not?
